A waterfall countertop is where the countertop is cut at a 45 degree mitered corner, and then continues down to the floor.  The way the pricing for this works is, typically the countertop fabricator will charge you a PSF (per square foot) cost for the fabrication as well as a PSF cost for the material, in addition to the labor associated with cutting and installing the waterfall edge, which must be installed and epoxied on site.  The labor cost for this service is typically between $400 - $500 per waterfall.  So, if your fabrication cost is $30 PSF and your materials cost is $20 PSF, and your island is four feet wide and three feet tall, you will have (4' wide x 3' tall =12SF x $50 PSF = $600 + $450 = $1,050 per waterfall.  So, for an island, you can expect to add at least $2,000 to your kitchen remodel.  In addition, your contractor will most likely include a markup on this service.

The four biggest ways to save money on a kitchen remodel are... First, to use white or grey shaker cabinets.  Almost every cabinet manufacturer sells a version of white or grey shaker, so they are by far the most affordable and available.  White cabinets are also timeless.  The second way is to do all standard base cabinets.  While three drawer bases and pull outs are very popular and functions, they are typically two to three times the cost of a standard cabinet.  Adding an additional $300 to each base cabinet can really add up.  The third way to save money on a kitchen remodel is to go with Level 1 quartz.  Much like the cabinets, most countertop manufacturers have their own version of 'Sparkle White' or 'Pure White' quartz countertops, which can be as cheap as $600 per slab for materials cost, with many smaller kitchens only requiring one slab.  The fourth way is to keep all the plumbing where it is.  Moving a sink, dishwasher, refrigerator ice maker line can result in thousands of dollars in cost additions.
